After recent rumors speculated the possibility of the PS4 being unable to use video capture through HDMI, many people (including me) became a little bit worried despite the confirmation of the PS4 integrating sharing tools such as Twitch and Ustream. Microsoft soon confirmed after that the Xbox One would allow such video capture.
Thankfully now, it has been confirmed that the PS4 will allow third party capture devices to record gameplay through the HDMI output, however it’s unsure if this accessibility will be available directly after launch.
We announced today that PS4 users will be able to capture their gameplay through HDMI output in the future. We’ll update you when ready.

This is fantastic news for people who regularly record with devices such as the Elgato, but this news makes me believe that new devices may possibly have to be purchased. It’s true for my case, in particular, considering I still use the old Hauppauge HD PVR with component cables.
At least now future PS4 consumers can breathe a collective sigh of relief. Your YouTube videos can continue into the new generation of gaming.
